US Ambassador Freeley Has Resign Office After Trump's 'Shithole' Remark

The United State’s ambassador to Panama has recently resigned over the confusions and differences with the Trump administration.
John D. Feeley who was born in 1961, a career diplomat who was sworn in as an American Ambassador to the Republic of Panama. He has served in that position since 2016 and will be resigning as of March 9, 2018.

According to the State Department spokesperson, he told CNN that Ambassador John Feeley "has already informed the White House, the Department of State and the Government of Panama of his decision to retire for personal reasons, starting from March 9 of this year."

In his resignation letter, Feeley's decision clearly stated not only due to the differences with the Trump administration but it was about President Donald Trump's "shithole" comments.

In addition, the Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs Steven Goldstein told CNN that Feeley had already put down his resignation letter to the White House since late December. "Everyone has a line that they don't want to cross and we respect that, "We are sorry to see him go." Goldstein added.

However, the statements in the letter goes on to say that he leaves the embassy "in good hands" and the US relationship with Panama is "strong."

"As a junior foreign service officer, I signed an oath to serve faithfully the President and his administration in an apolitical fashion, even when I might not agree with certain policies. My instructors made clear that if I believed I could not do that, I would be honor bound to resign. That time has come,"

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief of Mission Roxanne Cabral will step in until a new ambassador that will replace him is confirmed in office.
